 पोथी में लिखा है – जिस दिन राम, रावण को परास्त करके अयोध्या आए, सारा नगर दीपों से जगमगा उठा. यह दीपावली पर्व अनन्तकाल तक मनाया जाएगा. पर इसी पर्व पर व्यापारी बही-खाता बदलते हैं और खाता-बही लाल कपड़े में बांधी जाती है. प्रश्न है – राम के अयोध्या आगमन से खाता-बही बदलने का क्या सम्बन्ध? और खाता-बही लाल कपड़े में ही क्यों बांधी जाती है? बात यह हुई कि जब राम के आने का समाचार आया तो व्यापारी वर्ग में खलबली मच गई. वे कहने लगे – “सेठ जी, अब बड़ी आफ़त है. भरत के राज में तो पोल चल गई. पर राम मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम हैं. वे टैक्स की चोरी बर्दाश्त नहीं करेंगे. वे अपने खाता-बही की जांच करेंगे. और अपने को सज़ा होगी.” एक व्यापारी ने कहा, “भैया, अपना तो नम्बर दो का मामला भी पकड़ लिया जाएगा.” अयोध्या के नर-नारी तो राम के स्वागत की तैयारी कर रहे थे, मगर व्यापारी वर्ग घबरा रहा था. अयोध्या पहुंचने के पहले ही राम को मालूम हो गया था कि उधर बड़ी पोल है. उन्होंने हनुमान को बुलाकर कहा – सुनो पवनसुत, युद्ध तो हम जीत गए लंका में, पर अयोध्या में हमें रावण से बड़े शत्रु का सामना करना पड़ेगा – वह है, व्यापारी वर्ग का भ...
